Harrisburg, Pa. — PerformCare, a full-service managed behavioral health care organization and member of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, announced today that it has earned Health Equity Accreditation for its Pennsylvania business from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The accreditation is given to organizations that take a leading role in providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services and that work to reduce health care inequities and improve care for all.
“Our commitment to eliminating health disparities in underserved populations is key to producing better health outcomes,” said PerformCare President Jim Laughman, M.S.W., L.S.W. “PerformCare is dedicated to ensuring all providers, employees, and relevant stakeholders treat members in a manner that recognizes, values, affirms, and respects their worth; protects and preserves their dignity, and helps eliminate health care disparities in Pennsylvania. PerformCare appreciates the cultural and linguistic diversity of its members, and the influence these factors have on appropriate care and services for them, so we proactively address the social determinants that impact their health.”
NCQA’s Health Equity Accreditation evaluates how well an organization complies with standards in the following areas:
- Organizational readiness;
- Race/ethnicity, language, gender identify and sexual orientation;
- Access and availability of language services;
- Practitioner network cultural responsiveness;
- Culturally and linguistically appropriate services programs; and
- Reducing health care disparities.
PerformCare, founded in 1994 (as Community Behavioral HealthCare Network of Pennsylvania), is a full-service, managed behavioral health care organization that supports members and providers through contracts with Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Perry counties. It offers specialized behavioral health services and substance use disorder treatment through administrative services contracts in the public sector. PerformCare became a part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies in 2008, and currently serves approximately 340,000 members.
“Earning Health Equity Accreditation shows that an organization is making a breakthrough in providing excellent health care to diverse populations. I congratulate any organization that achieves this level of distinction,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “Eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health care is essential to improving the quality of care overall.”
